Easy for a beginner
I was surprised how easy this was to make-I don't bake much, but I recently received some lovely fresh cranberries and found this recipe while searching for something to make with them. The topping is awesome, but the dough could've used more flavor, in my opinion. It turned out the right consistency, but just a little tasteless. Did I do something wrong? Could I add cinnamon or something to the dough I wonder?
cranberry apple wheel review disparities
Jeanine loved it, Westelle had problems with it.
Westelle, did you let the cranberries drain after rinsing? DId you add the flour to the filling? What kind of apples did you use? The dough IS thick,
I rolled it thinner in the middle, out 11 inches and
then pushed the edges into a 1/2" rim. Convection
oven at 345 for 15 min, crust was browned, then another 10 minutes at 330 degrees. Very pretty!
Apple Cranberry Wheel
As soon as I got it assembled I had my doubts, but I figured -- it's Ocensprays recipe.
What a disappointment! It came out like a VERY thick pizza with a thick layer of fruit filling. The dough under the filling wasn't baked and the filling itself wasn't done. I removed the filling and cooked it a bit on the stove and returned the bread to the oven to finish baking.
* the filling needs to be pre-cooked
* the dough should have been rolled into a rectangle, the filling spread on top and then the dough folded over or rolled. At this point it could have been formed into a "wheel" or left as a log, and then allowed to rise and then be baked. The presentation would have been infinitely better.
I haven't used a recipe with yeast in years this was not only easy but delicious. I will make it for friends years to come.
