Removing the spices after the mixture has simmered is really important because as their oils are released, the wassail can become bitter. This is a particularly good recipe for those who don't wish to consume alcohol - but actually everyone seems to enjoy it, especially if it's cold outside.

I made this for my family for Thanksgiving and they loved it so much I had to make it again for Christmas. It's really easy, smells wonderful and is a nice alternative to mulled wine for those of us who are too young to drink. It's delicious!
