Makes 2 1/4 cups


1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 12-ounce package Ocean Spray® Fresh or Frozen Cranberries, rinsed and drained


Combine water and sugar in a medium saucepan. Bring to boil; add cranberries, return to boil. Reduce heat and boil gently for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cover and cool completely at room temperature. Refrigerate until serving time.

Makes 2 1/4 cups.

How to use less sugar

Living in Massachusetts and being a former grower, we have made cranberry sauce for years. Some years ago my wife heard about using baking soda help to neutralize the acid in rhubarb sauce and cranberry sauce. it works. The recipe that we just made is 4c. cranberries, 2c. water, 1c. sugar I/8 tsp. baking soda. that is I/2 the amount of sugar usually called for in the 2, 1, 1 ratio. You can use more baking soda and less sugar, but at some point you sacrifice some of the sweet/sour flavor. Plenty of nice variations: adding apples, raspberries, orange juice and more. Have fun experimenting!

I'm so glad to have had jars of your cranberry sauce while I've been living here in Australia. Canada is 4 years away from making it myself and turkey dinnerjust wouldn't be the same. Now that I have a supplier for frozen cranberries I can once again make it from scratch using your recipe.

Have enjoyed this for over 40 years. My mother started adding less & less sugar until your mouth puckered. I use about half a cup. LOVE the smell in the house & hearing the berries pop!!! My boys made it when they couldn't find anything else they wanted to eat....hate it if I don't have several packages in the freezer....this year made a cranberry chutney for Thanksgiving, adding orange & lemon + zest, exotic seasonings & walnuts.....Fantastic!!! Today I made 2 cranberry breads & still have some in the freezer!
