Thanksgiving Year Round
I've been making this since a child at 12, now 70. I do add chopped walnuts to mine. A plus for it, IT'S GLUTEN FREE. I have CELIAC DISEASE. Puffed pastry, cream cheese, walnuts. Cut pastry in 4x4 square, spread cream cheese on, then cranberry relish. Fold over pastry. 400° for 15 minutes. Yummy
FRESH CRANBERRY ORANGE RELISH
I took it for granted that the recipe would always appear on the package of fresh cranberries--it didn't! Learned my lesson! WRITE IT DOWN IN MY PERSONAL COOKBOOK FOR FUTURE REFERENCE!! This version is not so terribly sweet as some cranberry sauces are. Love it!
Mother was diabetic.
My mother made this recipe every holiday for years. When she became diabetic, she'd leave out the sugar and add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of orange juice. The result isn't as sweet as some folks want, but she could eat it.
Another way to eat it
My mom's made this in the 60's...& I still make it now (but couldn't find the recipe tonight!) Recipe was often on cranberry packaging. It's good on cottage cheese, for breakfast or a snack.
Simple tasty and versatile.
I half the recipe and make a jellied cooked recipe with the other half of bag. We have a small family so this gives us a little more variety. I can see there are countless variations that can be made but the basic recipe is simple tasty and a great condiment for everything from turkey ,cheese plate or a spicy beef dish.
