Wonderful side dish. I omitted the orange peel and upped the brown sugar a touch. I also chopped the onion. The entire family loved it.
Fewer onions and real butter
A bit labor intensive but VERY good. Replaced the nasty margarine suggestion with butter and used only TWO onions and not three. I think three would have been overboard. Otherwise it was a hit with my organic brown rice and wild rice right from the Boundary Waters. YUM!
Must have at Christmas / Thanksgiving
I have been making this recipe for a number of years to rave reviews. One of my go to recipes to make the holidays special!
I didn't have any brown rice so I use white rice. I would not use as many onions as they recommend and I would cut them much smaller than I did. It still was very good.
Please just get rid of margarine as an ingredient in this or any other recipes. It's bad for people. Exchange it for coconut oil. Add a little salt to get rid of the coconut flavor if you don't want that in this, or any other dish. It is good for us. It's good for our hair and skin. Margarine does nothing but clog arteries.
