Measurement Guide

Dash = less than 1/8 teaspoon

3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon

1/8 cup = 2 tablespoons or 1 fluid ounce

1/4 cup = 4 tablespoons

1/3 cup = 5 1/3 tablespoons

1/2 cup = 8 tablespoons

3/4 cup = 12 tablespoons

1 cup = 16 tablespoons

1 cup = 8 fluid ounces

2 cups = 1 pint or 16 fluid ounces

4 cups = 1 quart or 32 fluid ounces

4 quarts = 1 gallon or 128 fluid ounces

16 ounces = 1 pound

1 ounce = 28.35 grams

1 liter = 1.06 quarts

Measurement Equipment:

Liquid Measures: To measure liquids, use standard liquid measuring cups that are available in 1, 2 and 4-cup sizes with a pouring spout. Place cup on a level surface and fill to the required amount. Check measurement at eye level.
Dry Measures: To measure dry ingredients and solid fat, use standard dry measuring cups that come in sets of 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 and 1 cup.

To measure shortening and brown sugar, firmly press into measuring cup, level off with knife or spatula.
To measure flour, granulated or powdered sugars and other dry ingredients, lightly spoon or pour ingredients into measuring cup and then level off with the straight edge of a knife or spatula. There is no need to sift flour before measuring unless called for in recipe.

Measuring Spoons: Use for small amounts of dry or liquid ingredients and available in standard sets of 1/4, 1/2, 1 teaspoon and 1 tablespoon. Check measurements as above for liquid or dry.
