  • Delicious recipe Servings: 6 jars

Ingredients

Servings:
6 jars

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

1 12-ounce package Ocean Spray® Fresh Cranberries, rinsed and drained

1 teaspoon grated orange peel

Supplies:

Six small glass jars with lids

Rubber bands

Six (18-inch) lengths ribbon or raffia

Colorful tissue paper or fabric squares

Gift tags

Directions

Combine water and sugar in a medium saucepan. Bring to boil; add cranberries, return to boil. Reduce heat and boil gently for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in grated orange peel.

Cover and cool completely at room temperature. Spoon sauce into glass jars and top with lids.

For each jar, use a 6 to-8 inch cereal bowl as a pattern to trace a circle on a double layer of tissue paper or a fabric square. Cut out circles following pencil lines.

Place tissue over jar lid. Secure with rubber band. Tie decorative ribbon or raffia over rubber band. Add gift tag. Write a name or holiday greeting on the front of the gift tag, and on the back write, “Store cranberry sauce in refrigerator.” Makes 6 jars.

Note: This recipe and craft is the perfect family project. Children learn how boiling cranberries in water releases pectin, which bonds with the sugar and forms a natural gelatin. They will also enjoy packaging cooled sauce into glass jars (even clean baby food jars), decorating, and giving as gifts to family and neighbors. The recipe can be easily doubled or tripled.

Simple and delicious

I made this for the first time three years ago a team it on turkey sandwiches and sconce. I cut the sugar in half and add cinnamon and ginger. It is delicious. I am going to work on making it into jam for canning.

Just Made This

Used the orange zest and juice and cut back on the sugar -- had to add enough water to make a cup -- then let it cool and added pomegranate perils -- then put it in some pretty canning jars to bring to Thanksgiving dinner -- pulled out the zest and gave it a try before jarring it -- wow, very good.

It's requested every year!

My S.O. hates cranberry sauce, but he LOVES LOVES this recipe. I get multiple requests for this every year. I use fresh sqeezed juice and zest in mine so I can skip the sugar. Everyone is shocked when I tell them there is no sugar in it.

The BEST cranberry sauce EVER

I have made this recipe for years - it used to be printed on the side of the Ocean Spray cranberry bags, but they switch it up now and again. Every year I have at least one person tell me it is the best cranberry sauce they have ever had. I finally wrote it down this year, it keeps getting harder to find on this site. I skip the jarring, just feature it at Thanksgiving. I usually double the orange zest just for kicks. Easy to double/triple. YYYYYYYYUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMM!
