- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon caraway seeds
Grease a 9-inch round cake pan. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
Sift the dry ingredients into a medium mixing bowl. Work butter or margarine into dry ingredients until the butter is the size of small peas, using a pastry blender or fork.
Combine remaining ingredients in a separate medium mixing bowl. Add to dry ingredients, mixing just until dry ingredients are moist. Spread batter evenly in pan.
Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Makes 1 bread.
