Good base

4 stars as I made a few modifications. Started with a small diced onion softened in a bit of butter. Used orange juice instead of water. As this added both sweet and acid I used about 1/4 cup honey instead of the sugar and about 2 tbsp red wine vinegar and a glug of white vinegar. Added 1/4 tsp each of nutmeg and cardamom. Made for a slightly mellow chutney, might increase the vinegar a bit next time but overall a very good and Christmasy accompaniment to turkey and good with cheese on crackers!

I forgot one item....please add to my review

Great recipe on its own, but can be jazzed up!

This is a perfect starter and great on its own, but I have my own twist, which everyone loves. I used only 1/4 cup vinegar, and add: 1 clove minced garlic, 1 tsp salt, a dash of cayenne pepper, and 1/4 cup fresh ginger instead of ground. I also use the 1 cup sugar, but add an additional 1/4 cup of brown sugar. The flavor is amazing and complex! Bold yet just the right mix of sweet and tangy. It's a crowd pleaser, goes with everything, perfect on sandwiches (turkey, meatless, etc.) and an excellent gift.

I ommited the raisens because my wife and kids dont like raisens. I also omitted the vinegar and I repmaced it with orange and lemon juice with their zest. I also added a 1/2 cup of brandy. I also covered the cranberries with sugar overnight before i cooked them.
